Batwals discuss problems

JAMMU, June 17: The people of Jammu and Kashmir Batwal community in a meeting held at village Garhi discussed the problems being faced by them at various accounts.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship Subedar Major (retd) Romesh Sargotra. The participants urged the President of India and Prime Minister of India to refer their series of memorandums submitted in their offices and also, the survey report of their ethnographic study (undertaken by the Census Operations, J&K at the behest of Planning Commission of India) which has been pending with the Deputy Registrar General, India, New Delhi since 1994.
Community leader Pandit Vijay Shastri stated that the Government of India while undertaking their ethnographic study had assured to take steps to ameliorate the living standard of poor Batwals who were living under acute poverty line but unfortunately even after passage of 25 years, nothing concrete has been done for them.
