A group of women blocked the main road connecting Basant Bagh to Bohri Kadal for nearly half an hour, raising slogans against the Jal Shakti Department for failing to provide drinking water. Protesters said that despite suffering from health issues such as knee problems, women are forced to walk long distances daily to fetch water. “There are two localities in our area. One has been without water for a month and the other for the last four months. Even our children are struggling to carry water over long distances,” a woman protester said.
Residents expressed disappointment with the local MLA, claiming that despite voting in hopes of resolving basic issues like water supply, the situation has only worsened. “They only come during elections, make promises, and then disappear. The government has turned a deaf ear to our suffering,” another protester said.
The aggrieved locals urged the government and the lieutenant governor’s administration to intervene and provide a permanent solution. “We are searching for water like beggars. If the Government cannot provide even drinking water, what good is it?” a resident said.
The protesters warned of intensified protests if their demands are not met soon. “We will hit the roads along with our children, and the Government will be responsible for the consequences,” protesters said.
