SRINAGAR, Sept 12: Residents of Qazi Hamam in Baramulla’s old town, Ward No. 1, in north Kashmir today voiced frustration over the prolonged neglect of a key street that connects the neighborhood to Ziyarat Dastageer Sahab and other important landmarks.
Locals said that the street has not seen repairs or developmental work for several years, despite repeated appeals and written requests to the Roads and Buildings Department and Municipal Council Baramulla.
Authorities, residents said, they have only prepared estimates over the past five years without taking action. “Only tall claims of development are being made on social media, but we have not seen any repair or other important work on this street. We have appealed multiple times to the authorities, but every time we are only given assurances,” a resident said.
The locality president said several homes have suffered damage due to the deteriorating road. “We once again request the concerned authorities to kindly look into the matter. It is hardly one kilometre from the district headquarters in Baramulla, yet it remains neglected,” he said.
The last repair on the stairs lane was carried out in 2004, residents said, and no official visit or intervention has occurred since. “The street is the only access route to Ziyarat Dastageer Sahab, and multiple homes in the area,” locals said.
The residents urged authorities to take swift action and complete the long-pending repairs without further delay.
