JAMMU, Feb 3: The Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association Jammu (JKHCBAJ), representing the voice of thousands of legal professionals and the aspirations of the people of Jammu region, today held large-scale protest to vehemently oppose the ongoing discrimination meted out to Jammu and to press for the establishment of a National Law University (NLU) in Jammu.

“For decades, the Jammu region has been systematically sidelined in key developmental initiatives, including higher education and legal infrastructure. While the Kashmir Valley has flourished with prestigious institutions, Jammu continues to languish without a dedicated National Law University, denying its youth access to world-class legal education and perpetuating an unjust divide”, the protesting lawyers said.
They further said, “the establishment of NLU at Jammu is not merely an academic necessity; it is a moral imperative to foster inclusive growth, empower local talent, and bridge the gaping chasm of regional disparity that threatens the social fabric of Union Territory”.
“The people of Jammu have endured enough”, declared Senior Advocate Nirmal K Kotwal President, JKHCBAJ, adding “this protest is a clarion call against the blatant neglect of our region. We demand the immediate notification of the National Law University at Jammu, to ensure that our children do not have to migrate elsewhere for quality legal education”.
The Bar Association urged the Central and Union Territory administrations, including the Ministry of Education, to heed this democratic expression and act swiftly. “We remain committed to peaceful advocacy but continued inaction will galvanize further mobilization to safeguard Jammu’s rightful place in the nation’s progress”, the Association said.
