RAMBAN, Nov 22: The Bar Association of Ramban (BAR) on Saturday raised objections to the recent transfer of judicial and quasi-judicial powers to revenue authorities and the implementation of J&K Tenancy Act.
Addressing a press conference BAR secretary, Asif Hamid Itoo along with Fairoz Khan, Samrat Parihar, and other members said that BAR fully supports the stance taken by the presidents of J&K High Court Bar Association and Jammu and Kashmir Bar Association, Srinagar.
Asif Hamid Itoo noted that shifting of traditional judicial functions to revenue officials has disrupted the institutional balance and created procedural confusion for both advocates and litigants.
BAR members argued that revenue officers, though experienced in administrative work, are not institutionally equipped to handle matters requiring judicial interpretation and application of law.
“This transition has already led to delays, misinterpretation of legal provisions and additional procedural hurdles which could have been avoided through consultation with the legal community,” they maintained appealing to the LG Manoj Sinha to reconsider and withdraw the circulars and notifications assigning judicial responsibilities to executive authorities.
