JAMMU, Nov 19: Bar Association of J&K High Court (HC), Jammu, organized a day-long medical camp for its members at the Court Complex today.
The initiative aimed at providing convenient access to essential health services for lawyers, who often face long working hours, high stress levels, and limited time for regular medical check-ups.
The camp was formally inaugurated by Justice Y P Bourney, Justice Prem Sagar and Justice R S Jasrotia in the presence of BAR Association President Advocate Nirmal Kotwal, office-bearers, senior advocates, and a large gathering of legal professionals.
Addressing the lawyers, the dignitaries emphasized that regular health screenings play a vital role in preventing lifestyle-related diseases, especially in professions known for pressure-driven work environments.
During the camp, leading cardiologist Dr Nikhil Mahajan conducted detailed cardiac evaluations of over 100 lawyers. Dr Mahajan also delivered important advice on preventive cardiology, early detection of heart-related issues, and life-saving interventions required in the event of a heart attack. He stressed the need for timely medical attention, moderation in lifestyle habits, and regular monitoring of blood pressure, cholesterol, and stress levels.
Advocate Nirmal Kotwal, while speaking on the occasion, noted that the legal profession demands long hours of reading, drafting, and court appearances, often leading to high stress and inadequate rest. He stated that initiatives like medical camps not only create awareness but also help in identifying health issues at an early stage, thereby ensuring the well-being of the legal community.
The camp also featured Dr Shekhar Gupta, an eminent eye specialist, who conducted eye examinations and provided specialized advice on vision care. Many lawyers availed the opportunity to get screened for common ophthalmic issues such as dryness, strain due to extensive reading, and age-related changes.
