RAJOURI, Oct 8: The residents of Palma area in Rajouri have accused the local branch of J&K Bank of allegedly misappropriating their hard-earned money and held protest outside the branch on the main Rajouri-Budhal road today.
The revelation triggered massive anger among depositors, leading locals to lock the bank premises and block the main road in front of the branch in protest, demanding immediate action and recovery of their lost savings.
According to local residents, several account holders have reported unauthorized withdrawals from their bank accounts. One female account holder alleged that an amount of Rs 8,70,000 was withdrawn without her knowledge, leaving her in shock and reportedly turned unconscious during the protest.
Protesting villagers stated that despite repeated assurances from the bank staff that their money would be returned, no concrete action had been taken so far. The aggrieved customers demanded that the authorities conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those involved are held accountable and punished as per law.
Upon receiving information, a police party from Police Station Rajouri, led by SHO Inspector Abid Hussain Shah, reached the spot and pacified the protestors. Inspector Shah assured them that strict legal action would be taken against those found involved and that their hard-earned money would be returned. Following this assurance, the protestors lifted the road blockade peacefully.
