KATRA, July 12: A Bangladeshi national was apprehended here today for allegedly entering Indian territory without valid travel documents.
Identified as Mohd Fahim Ahmed, son of Mohd A Salam, the said Bangladeshi was observed acting suspiciously by a police party performing routine checking near Asia Chowk in Katra, the base camp for pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. Upon seeing the cops, Fahim attempted to hide but was eventually captured.
According to Police, a Bangladeshi identity card was found in possession of Fahim. However, he could not provide any valid travel documents, visa, or passport to justify his presence in India.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Fahim entered India through unauthorised means, violating immigration laws. Accordingly, FIR number 200/2025, under section 14A(b) of the Foreigners Act, 1946 has been registered in this connection at Police Station Katra and further investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind his illegal entry and possible links.
The Police operation was conducted under the leadership of SHO Katra Insp Khyatiman Khajuria and under the supervision of SDPO Katra Dr Bhishm Dubey and SP Katra Vipan Chandran.
SSP Reasi, Paramveer Singh has appealed all citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police unit.
