Bandipora, March 7: Authorities on Saturday suspended vehicular movement on the Bandipora–Gurez road following fresh snowfall at Razdan Top, officials said.
The decision was taken as a precautionary measure after snowfall made the high-altitude Razdan Pass slippery and unsafe for traffic.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Gurez Mukhtar Ahmad confirmed that traffic on the road connecting Bandipora with the remote Gurez Valley has been suspended until further orders.
“Due to snowfall at Razdan Top and as a precautionary measure, movement on the Bandipora–Gurez road shall remain suspended till further orders,” the SDM said.
Officials said snowfall at the pass reduced visibility and created slippery conditions, prompting authorities to halt traffic to avoid any untoward incidents.
Razdan Top, located at an altitude of over 11,000 feet, serves as the main road link between Gurez Valley and the rest of Kashmir through Bandipora district.
The road frequently remains affected during winter due to heavy snowfall and harsh weather conditions.
Authorities said the situation is being monitored and the road will be reopened after weather conditions improve and clearance operations are carried out. (KNT)
