Balwant Thakur’s play breaks records, set to feature in 26th National Theatre Fest

JAMMU, Mar 19: Renowned Theatre Director, Balwant Thakur’s iconic children’s play ‘Aap Hamaare Hain Kaun’ has achieved yet another milestone by becoming the only children’s production selected for 26th National Theatre Festival, scheduled to be held in Amritsar from March 21 to 30, 2026.
The play will be staged at Virsa Vihar, Amritsar, on March 25.
Originally written in 1994, this landmark production has earned the distinction of being India’s longest-running children’s play and today it stands on the threshold of creating world theatre history.
The play has travelled extensively across the length and breadth of the nation, captivating audiences in cities such as Delhi, Shimla, Chandigarh, Patiala, Srinagar, Amritsar etc.
Sharing insights into the production, Balwant Thakur, also the founder of Natrang, emphasized that ‘Aap Hamaare Hain Kaun’ marked a decisive shift in the philosophy and practice of theatre for children in India.
With its upcoming performance at the National Theatre Festival in Amritsar, the play not only celebrates its extraordinary legacy but also strengthens its claim as a world record-setting, movement-defining work, a shining example of how trusting children as creators can transform not just theatre but the very idea of artistic expression.
