JAMMU, Oct 4: Balwant Thakur’s most aspiring play ‘Choona Hai Aasmaan’ was staged today at Natrang Studio Theatre, devised under his new theatre methodology inspired by the “theatre of images.”
Aimed at motivating the youth, who constitute the majority of the State’s population, the play encouraged them to strive for excellence in life through an innovative visual language expressed by spectacular group compositions and images.
Performed by young actors, the play begins by portraying local challenges, particularly the growing involvement of youth in drugs and the decline of respect for elders. Against this backdrop, a young man emerges as a representative of the country’s youth — the largest and most vital workforce. He aspires to compete with people from the most progressive nations and to lead the world. However, despite his determination, he feels shackled by an environment of division and unrest where petty conflicts, largely instigated by anti-national elements, divert the energies of young minds into destructive directions.
The protagonist reflects on how progressive nations have risen above such small issues, breaking boundaries for the greater good of humanity, while here, the youth are being exploited for narrow political gains. He realizes that peace is the essential prerequisite for growth and development. His dream is of a village where no one fights in the name of religion, where there is no hatred or separatism, but only progress, prosperity, and harmony.
The play concludes with a powerful message of hope as the youth pledge to rise above trivial disputes, embrace peace, and pursue their aspirations fearlessly, aiming to “touch the skies” and scale ultimate heights.
The artists who gave remarkable performances included Vijay Bhat, Neeraj Kant, Mitali Sarmal, Mohd Yaseen, Pawan Verma, Parmjeet Singh, Prerna Sharma, Chandani Rana, Sahil Sharma, Kananpreet Kaur, Khushal Bhat, Sanjay Singh, Aryan Sharma, Kartik Kumar, Rahul Singh, Priyal Ashok Gupta, Simran Bhagat, Gauri Thakur, Vandana Thakur, Shaptan Singh, Lovish, Khushal Bhat, Mihir Gujral, Aadesh Dhar, Vansh Pandotra, Krishay Bhatia, Sanket Bhagat, Karanveer and Sheetal Sen.
