SHIMLA, June 27: Eminent theatre director and former cultural diplomat of India Padamshri Balwant Thakur here today met Shiv Pratap Shukla, Governor of Himachal Pradesh and discussed new possibilities of cultural collaborations and exchanges to rejuvenate the ongoing cultural movement of Himachal Pradesh.
Thakur pondered a vision for culture for this place which he discussed with the Governor.
Sharing his concerns about the art and culture of Himachal, he desired that the region require larger exposure which is possible only through cultural exchanges and innovative collaborations.
“Local artists require opportunities to showcase their talent at national and international platforms and in the similar fashion highly acclaimed productions and performances from outside are required to be brought to Himachal which may prompt excellence and professionalism amongst them,” Thakur maintained terming Himachal as one of the richest cultural regions of the country.
“The 138 year old Gothic Revival style Theatre Gaiety in Shimla has all the required potential and historical cultural inheritance to become a world destination of theatre with little intervention of total professional approaches of theatre production, performances and creative industry marketing,” he further said and stressed on the need for bridging J&K and Himachal culturally.
