Sir,
Mr Shiban Khaibri’s column “Ballot Bhakti” dated 8/7/2025 incisively exposes the deep-rooted contradictions and selective moral outrage that have come to define large swathes of Indian political discourse today. His critique of political parties engaging in “Ballot Bhakti” is both timely and justified, especially in an environment where symbolism is often prioritized over substance. The selective condemnation of Hindutva while simultaneously invoking Hindu imagery for electoral gains is not just duplicitous but insulting to the intelligence of the electorate.
The op-ed also rightly calls out the hypocrisy in selectively targeting organizations like the RSS while maintaining a studied silence on or even aligning with groups that have historically propagated separatism and radicalism. Furthermore, questioning military operations and demanding tactical details in public only serves to demoralize the armed forces and embolden adversaries like Pakistan, as the author persuasively argues.
Khaibri’s defense of initiatives like the CAA, the abrogation of Article 370, and the Yoga Day resolution underscores how reforms and nation-building efforts are often met with obstructionism rooted in electoral desperation rather than genuine democratic dissent. Ultimately, the article makes a clear and necessary call: for the electorate to look past theatrics and vote with discernment, national interest, and long-term vision.
