JAMMU Dec 14: Senior BJP leader and former Health Minister, Bali Bhagat on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the Congress over its Delhi rally, alleging that the protest was not about electoral reforms but an attempt to protect “Ghuspaithiyas” (illegal infiltrators) such as Bangladeshis and Rohingyas and to mislead the public.
Issuing statement, Bhagat said the Congress was holding the rally even as Union Home Minister, Amit Shah comprehensively exposed the Opposition’s “fabricated allegations” during a detailed debate on electoral reforms in Parliament. “This clearly shows that Congress has no truth on its side and is deliberately trying to create confusion,” he said.
Bhagat accused the Congress of appeasement politics and of repeatedly targeting constitutional institutions to escape accountability after electoral defeats. “First they blamed EVMs, then the SIR process, and tomorrow they will blame the people. Congress refuses to introspect and instead looks for excuses,” he remarked.
Defending the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, Bhagat cited Bihar as a successful model, stating that the process strengthened electoral integrity. “SIR was first implemented in Bihar, where over one crore voters supported the revision. After completion, the State witnessed record turnout. Opposition leaders should learn from this instead of spreading falsehoods,” he said.
The BJP leader also dared Rahul Gandhi to legally challenge the Bihar Assembly elections if he believed there were irregularities. “Rahul Ji still has time. If there was any wrongdoing in any constituency, he should approach the court instead of staging rallies,” Bhagat said.
Taking serious note of a video allegedly showing a Congress leader making threats against Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, Bhagat said the incident exposed the party’s mindset. “This rally is not about SIR. It is an attack on the Constitution and an attempt to ‘save the family’. For Congress, dynastic politics is above constitutional democracy,” he asserted.
On the choice of venue, Bhagat dismissed the rally’s impact, saying Ramlila Maidan lacks the capacity for a large public gathering. “The venue has around 2,200 seats, yet Congress claimed larger attendance. They choose Ramlila Maidan for symbolic reasons, not because of public support,” he said, adding, “If there is any ‘vote Chor’ in the country, it is the Congress.”
