BAJ, political leaders pay tribute to Kathua martyrs

JAMMU, Mar 29: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association Jammu (J&K HCBAJ) and several political leaders today paid rich tribute to the brave policemen who lost their lives in a recent encounter with the terrorists in Kathua district.
They condemned terrorism, expressed solidarity with the security forces, and called for stronger measures to ensure peace in the region.
In a statement, the Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association Jammu President Nirmal Kotwal expressed heartfelt condolences to the martyrs’ families and saluted their supreme sacrifice for the nation.
The association also demanded ex-gratia relief from the Government for the martyrs’ families.
Members of the Bar Association also held a protest, expressing outrage over Pakistan’s continued support for terrorism.
They criticized Pakistan for fuelling unrest in Jammu & Kashmir, posing a threat to national peace and security.
Vice President Baldev Singh, General Secretary Pardeep Majotra, Joint Secretary Anshu Mahajan, and Treasurer Rahul Aggarwal urged an immediate end to Pakistan-sponsored terror activities.
They reaffirmed their commitment to justice for the martyrs and full support for security forces.
Young Lawyers Association members, including Bhagirath Singh, Hitesh Koul, and Sushil Thapa, also joined the protest.
Former MP and senior Congress leader Choudhary Lal Singh, DCC President Kathua Pankaj Dogra, and Rakesh Chaudhary attended the last rites of martyr Jaswant Singh in Londi, Kathua.
Similarly, Chief Spokesperson of JKPCC Ravinder Sharma, along with senior leaders Thakur Hari Singh Chib and T S Tony, paid tribute to HC Jagbir Singh at Khour, sharing heartfelt condolences with the martyrs’ families.
Ravinder Sharma condemned terrorism and Pakistan’s role in supporting terror activities.
“The sacrifices of our martyrs will not go in vain. Terrorists and their mentors, including Pakistan, will never succeed in their nefarious designs,” he said, urging the Central Government to strengthen the security grid and ensure the safety of both security personnel and civilians.
PDP leader and social activist Rishi Kilam criticized the BJP-led Central Government for its failure to address the worsening security situation in Jammu.
He condemned Pakistan for orchestrating terror incidents and warned against efforts to disrupt communal harmony in the region. ”
The people of Jammu will never allow any attempt to divide communities,” Kilam asserted.
BJP leader Raman Suri also paid heartfelt tribute to the martyrs, emphasizing the bravery of the fallen policemen-Tariq Ahmed, Jaswant Singh, Balwinder Singh Chib, and HC Jagbir Singh-who laid down their lives fighting terrorists.
“Militancy in Jammu and Kashmir is on its last legs. These cowardly attacks will not weaken our resolve,” Suri said.
He urged the Government to take strict action against local supporters of terrorism.
JDS President Mastnath Yogi also expressed grief over the martyrdom of the police personnel and called for decisive action to curb militancy in Kathua.
He also urged the Government to provide adequate compensation to the families of the fallen heroes.
BJP spokesperson Dr Tahir Choudhary also condemned Pakistan for promoting terrorism in the region, particularly during the holy month of Ramzan.
In a statement, he accused Pakistan of attempting to destabilise the region with the support of terrorist groups like Jaish-e-Mohammad.
He praised the valiant security forces and reaffirmed his party’s commitment to ensuring peace and security in the Union Territory.
Choudhary also criticized the National Conference-led Government for its absence at the ceremonial wreath-laying event in Kathua.
“It is shameful that not even a single Government official or Minister attended the event to pay respects to the bravehearts who sacrificed their lives for the nation,” he said.
