Bahrain detains two for allegedly spying for Iran

DOHA, Apr 7: Bahraini law enforcement authorities have detained two suspects in an alleged spying scheme for Iran, the public prosecutor’s office said.
“Two suspects of spying and working for intelligence services and the terrorist Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have been detained in Bahrain,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement on Monday.
The defendants are suspected of receiving instructions to monitor sensitive targets in the kingdom, collect information about them, and transfer it to Iran, the statement added.
Last week, protests were held in Bahrain following the death in police custody of a 32-year-old man detained on charges of espionage for Iran. His family accuses police of using torture during the investigation, but Bahraini authorities have denied this. According to local human rights activists, Bahraini authorities have detained at least 250 people since the start of the conflict in Iran. (UNI)
