Excelsior Correspondent

KISHTWAR, Nov 26: Expressing serious concern over the increasing road accidents in the hilly districts of Doda and Kishtwar, the civil society of the hilly belt has urged the Government to take elaborate steps so that such road mishaps don’t occur in future.
The civil society which met here today under the leadership of Shamsher Singh Bhandari said that they are shocked over the killing of people in road mishaps which are on increase now. Addressing the meeting Mr Bhandari said there are various reasons responsible for these accidents which include bad condition of roads, outdated vehicles who have given up their service, mismanagement of traffic police and lack of proper check on roads.
He said many families in these twin districts have lost their nears and dears in the road accidents for last some years but the Government never bothered to improve the condition of roads especially in the far-flung areas. He said as GoI has given ample funds for road connectivity and the State Government should now take up the hand of road widening in the hilly districts of Kishtwar and Doda districts on war footing basis.
