JAMMU, Feb 3: Taking the Principal, Government Medical College Dr Aniece Choudhary to task, the family members and social organisations continued protests for third consecutive day today in SMGS Hospital alleging his apathy in putting a check on the abduction of the newly born babies from the hospital.
Protest by family members accompanied by some social organizations continued for the third day today. Family members and social organization alleged the Principal’s apathy in taking strong steps to stop infants’ theft from the hospital.
They said that the people from the rural areas came to the hospital, with hope that the patient and the newly born baby will get the best medical facilities ever.
After the third abduction from the hospital since last three months, people are compelled to head towards private nursing homes for delivery and other allied cases, as working of the hospital has been badly exposed, they alleged.
The theft of baby has not only put question mark on the steps being taken by the hospital administration to check incidents but also exposed slackness of the City police in working out the abduction cases of infants.
The recent incident of the baby lifting after the installation of CCTV cameras and hoarding in each and every ward of the hospital has exposed the tall claims, which the administration had made after such thefts in the past.
In the recent baby theft incident, the male baby of Sharifa Begum, wife of Mohammad Mushtaq of village Narriyan, tehsil Nowshera, district Rajouri was stolen on the intervening night of January 31 and February 1 from labour room of SMGS Hospital.
Meanwhile, the panel constituted by the Principal, Government Medical College and headed by Administrator, Associated Hospitals Reva Gupta will submit its detailed report tomorrow in the case of the infant’s abduction from the hospital premises, official sources told the Excelsior.
“On the second day today, Administrator Reva Gupta and other assisting officers of the panel recorded statement of 8 attached staffers of the hospital including three Nurses, three Nursing Orderlies, two safai-karamcharis and two dis-engaged security personnel namely Vinay and Kishore, they added.
“During their statements, all the attached staffers said that they handed over the child to the family members after obtaining written signed receipt from them, which the hospital administration has made mandatory after abduction of the baby on November 14”, sources said.
“Security personnel in their statement said that they were on duty on the second gate of the hospital and went to the spot after listening the hue and cry by the family members after abduction of the child”, they added.
Police said they were working on all leads and surely the abducted child will be recovered and restored to the family members at the earliest.
