UDHAMPUR, June 22: Social activist and Jan Sangharsh Sansth chief, Advocate Sanjeet Baboria has demanded setting up Mini Secretariat at Udhampur besides Government Medical College as well as Children & Maternity Hospitals at block level in the district.
Addressing a press conference, here today, Baboria said that keeping in view the population of Udhampur district and its difficult terrain, there was an urgent need of Children & Maternity Hospitals at block level for providing medical facilities to children and pregnant women.
“As per 2011 census, Udhampur district has total population of 554985, in which 258, 201 are females, who need emergency medical services during the birth of a child and in absence of maternity hospitals at block level, they are forced to travel several kilometers to reach the District Hospital,” he said adding that non-availability of medical facility to the pregnant women sometimes leads to death of infant and even mother also.
Further stating that District Udhampur is spread in an area of 2,637 square kilometers and a District Hospital was not sufficient to cater to such a vast area with a population of more than 5.5 lakh, Baboria demanded establishing a Government Medical College at Udhampur.
He also demanded setting up a Mini Secretariat at Udhampur to house all the District offices for avoiding inconvince to general public.
Baboria informed that in connection with these demands, he would soon submit a memorandum to Governor Satya Pal Malik for early action.
