SOPORE, Apr 15: Former Minister and AICC Member, Abdul Gani Vakil today reiterated that Congress is a historical party and betterment of masses is its only objective but at the same time it will never endorse B-Team role in coalition rather as a responsible partner will play pivotal and equal role in the developmental process. The second fiddle role is unacceptable to the rank and file of the party, he added.
Referring to the speech of Omar Abdullah delivered at India Today conclave, Vakil said that Chief Minister had himself admitted that it is impossible to curb corruption in coalition system because of ‘coalition compulsion’ therefore National Conference should avoid thinking about any pre or post poll alliances with any party to pave the way for eradication of corruption in reality. Vakil was addressing a party convention here today.
The former Minister said that in all the three regions of the State Congress is in much stronger position than any other party and is capable of contesting all the seats in absence of pre-poll alliances during 2014 elections.
The convention culminated with the passing of three resolutions unanimously viz. extending 73rd Amendments of Constitution to the State of J&K, holding of elections of ULB and Panchayat Councils and initiating legal proceedings against corrupt politicians, bureaucrats and officers.
Those who addressed the convention includes senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Shah, Haji Mohd Afzal Khan, Pandit Brij Mohan Nehru, Youth Congress Assembly Presidents of Rafiabad and Sangrama, Altaf Ahmad Malik, Sheikh Manzoor Ahmad and several others.
