JAMMU, Nov 11: Association for Welfare of Senior Citizens (AWSC), Jammu has urged the J&K Government to implement rules for maintenance and welfare of parents and senior citizens at the earliest.
“This is one of the long-pending projected by us from time to time. Now, when the Government has framed and issued Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Rules 2021, there should be no delay on the part of the concerned authorities in effective implementation of these rules,” the Association members said during their meeting held today at Trikuta Nagar office.
A good number of Association members along with their spouses participated in the meeting. The speakers said with the framing of these Rules, the parents and senior citizens, who generally run from the pillar to post after being neglected by their own family members, would heave a sigh of relief as far as getting maintenance is concerned.
Now a senior citizen including parent who is unable to maintain himself or herself from his or her own earning or out of the property owned by him or her will be entitled to make an application under the Act/Rules for seeking maintenance, they said and expressed gratitude to J&K LG and Commissioner/Secretary of Social welfare Department for framing and issuing these rules.
The Association members appealed the Government to assign responsibilities to the concerned officers and form committees at UT as well as district level to implement these Rules in letter and spirit, for the welfare of senior citizens.
