JAMMU, July 14: As a part of the ongoing “STOP Diarrhea Campaign” initiated by the Government of India from June 2 to July 31, the Department of Pediatrics, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu organized an awareness seminar today at the SMGS Hospital auditorium.
Principal, GMC Jammu, Dr Ashutosh Gupta, was the chief guest on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Gupta acknowledged the proactive involvement of the Department of Pediatrics in this vital health campaign, aimed at tackling the seasonal surge in diarrhea cases during the monsoon and summer months. He emphasized the need for strengthening and expanding Pediatric super specialities, such as Neonatology, Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, and Pediatric Nephrology, to better serve the region’s healthcare needs.
Welcoming the dignitaries, Dr Sanjeev Kumar Digra, Professor & Head, Department of Pediatrics, highlighted the campaign’s significance. He stressed that early identification, hydration management, continued nutrition, exclusive breastfeeding till six months, hygiene, immunization, and access to safe drinking water are key to prevention.
The seminar featured interactive sessions with patients and attendants, where Pediatric faculty members provided crucial information on diarrhea prevention and management. Junior Resident Doctors Dr Akshay Padha and Dr Sukriti Waza delivered insightful talks on the role of Zinc and ORS in managing diarrhea.
Dr Dara Singh, Medical Superintendent, SMGS Hospital; Yasir Balwan, Director Planning & Statistics, NHM J&K and Vaneet Singh Manhas, Financial Advisor and Chief Accounts Officer, NHM J&K, were guests of honour.
Other attendees included Dr D R Dogra, Prof & Head Dermatology; Dr Rachna Sabharwal, HoD Biochemistry; Prof Dr Ashu Jamwal; Prof Dr Sunil Dutt Sharma; Prof Dr Mohd Razaq; Associate Professors Dr Anuj Bhatti, Dr Koushal Kumar and Assistant Professors Dr Anumodan Gupta, Dr Raman Sharma, Dr Surjeet Kumar, Dr Rajinder Singh, Dr Priyanka Sharma, and Dr Pallavi Sharma, along with resident doctors, nursing staff, students and patient attendants.
