JAMMU, Jan 9: NSS wing and Health Centre of SKUAST-Jammu organised an awareness lecture on ‘Breast and cervical cancer causes and management’ for NSS students of Faculty of Agriculture.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof J P Sharma, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu, called upon the students to be simple on choosing their diet to keep them fit and have a positive approach toward their goal.
Before the start of lecture, the family of squadron leader Ravinder Kr Khanna who made supreme sacrifice during early days of militancy in Kashmir was honoured by presenting a memento and shawl to Shalini Khanna, wife of the martyr.
At the outset, Prof Rajesh Katoch, Dean Students threw light on the burning issue of breast cancer and cervical cancer in particular young ladies. Shalini Khanna spoke on the occasion and called upon the students to be disciplined and manage their diets and time to get success in the life.
Dr Harbaksh Singh, CMO Jammu, while speaking on the occasion, stressed upon the need of change in life style and also called upon the students to keep health at priority. Dr Paras Khanna, a Surgical Oncologist delivered the lecture on the topic ‘Breast and Cervical cancer cause and management’. He threw lights on various social factors leading to worsening of increase of cancer patients in the society and one major cause is the ignorance and lack of awareness about such diseases. Dr Sumati Sharma, former Additional Director DRDO called upon the students to remain vigilant regarding their health.
Dr Subhash C Kashyap, NSS Coordinator, presented vote of thanks and called upon the students to disseminate the knowledge gained from the talk among society and make awareness about cancer and other such diseases.
Medical Officer Dr Anil Gupta coordinated the programme. Those present in the programme included Dr Minu Katoch, Scientist IIIM; Dr Sushmita Dadich, Dr R Punia, Dr Balbir Dhotra and Neeraj Gupta, NSS programme officers. Many faculty members and students attended the programme.
