Awareness event organized on World Cancer Day

JAMMU, Feb 4: Today on world Cancer Day, an awareness event `UMEED’ was organized by Space Communications, Ist Event Management Company of Jammu and Kashmir in association with Radiations of Hope-A cancer care initiative.
The theme of event was “Light a Candle Light a Hope”. The event began from 5:30 pm onwards at Ranbireshwar Temple, Shalamar, Jammu and Foot Bridge Lal Mandi, Srinagar.
Despite inclement whether conditions people from all walks of life participated and showed solidarity for the cause. Cancer awareness literature was distributed and a signature campaign was launched to aware the public about early detection and prevention aspect of cancer.
Under the banner of UICC, this day is observed across the globe to create awareness among masses about menace of Cancer. Radiations of Hope is a Cancer care initiative by Dr. Deepak Abrol (under patronage of Dr Ashok K.Vaid Chairman Medical Oncology Medanta, Gurgaon). This group started its activities from February 4, 2010 and is involved in cancer awareness activities and organizing CME’s and camps for last three years.
Dharmarth Trust management provided logistics and support in organizing the event. Prominent figures present were president Dharmarth Trust Maj Gen. R.S.Jamwal, MLA Bani Lal Chand, Dr. Sameer Koul ( Surgical Oncologist Apollo New-Delhi), Dr. Yash Paul Sharma ( Director, NRHM J&K) , Shashi Khajuria (Secretary, Dharmarth Trust), Rani G Balloria ( former Deputy Mayor) , Pawan Shastri ( president Jammu Yatri Bhawan Trust) , Vikram Malhotra ( Ex gen secy Indian Youth Congress) and others.
