Autonomy, self-rule can’t solve K-issue: Vakil

KANGAN, Sept 19: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Abdul Gani Vakil has said that neither autonomy of National Conference nor self-rule as projected by PDP can resolve Kashmir issue.
Addressing a public meeting at Kangan in district Ganderbal today, the Congress leader said these parties have to understand that Kashmir issue can only be resolved when all the parties including separatists will sit together taking into consideration the aspirations of all the three regions then only a genuine solution will come out by consensus.
Mr Vakil pointed out that resolution of Kashmir issue is enshrined in collective wisdom of the parties concerned, a criterion which the self-rule and autonomy do not fulfill. He said Congress will not allow anybody to use Kashmir issue to change the fortunes or misfortunes of political exploiters. Vakil said Kashmir issue can not be treated as commodity on which dirty politics can be played.
The Congress leader said Article 370 is to be strengthened and those communal forces bent upon dividing the State are to be kept at bay. He pointed out that divisive forces favouring abrogation of Article 370 were the enemies of state and were trying to weaken the State’s relations with the Centre.
Describing corruption as biggest enemy of the State, Vakil said ‘corruption and nepotism’ would have to be fought with firm hands. There should be no room for such people in the Government promoting it. He urged the Chief Minister to implement the law under which the properties of corrupt officials are seized. He said stringent laws to curb corruption be enacted. He demanded that SAC and ASV be strengthened and given enough teeth.
Haji Ali Mohd Bhat (MLC), senior leader Ghulam Hassan Shah and Mohd Yaqoob Kapra also addressed the gathering.
