Authorities suspend 8 docs, paramedics

SRINAGAR, May 28: The authorities today ordered the suspension of eight doctors and paramedics at Paras Hospital, pending an inquiry into the alleged medical negligence that led to the death of a 34-year-old patient from Pampore.

As per directives issued by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Srinagar, the hospital administrator has been directed to suspend the practice of these medical professionals in line with the recommendations of the inquiry committee.
“As recommended by the inquiry committee, and pending inquiry with regard to the death of a patient namely Waseem Ahmad Pathan, the administrator of the hospital is directed to stop the practice of mentioned doctors and paramedical staff working in the hospital till the inquiry is concluded,” the notice read.
Those barred from medical practice at Paras Hospital include Dr. Sheikh Zahoor Ahmad, Surgeon; Dr. Shah Naveed, Assistant; Dr. Zahid and team, Anesthetist; Dr. Syed Dawood, Anesthetist; Dr. Khawar, Anesthetist; the concerned OT Technician; In-charge ICU; and Nurse Insha.
“All the mentioned doctors and paramedical staff are directed to be available for the inquiry proceedings as and when called. Non-compliance shall be viewed seriously under rules and guidelines in vogue.”
The suspension follows an inquiry ordered by the authorities into allegations of medical negligence levelled by the family of the deceased patient.
Officials noted that a preliminary probe had been carried out, and additional evidence was being collected.
They stated that the preliminary report suggests blood had accumulated inside the body, leading to hypovolemic shock and septicaemia.
