Srinagar, Aug 31: Authorities today sounded a weather alert after the Meteorological department predicted heavy showers and strong winds to hit several parts of the district till September 1.
In this regard, the district administration, Srinagar, issued a Weather Advisory, specifically advising people residing in Fakir Gujri, its adjacent areas, and Khonmoh to refrain from venturing in and around slopes and water bodies until the weather improves.
The advisory, it stated, has been issued in view of the inclement weather, with a forecast of heavy, intense showers accompanied by gusty winds over some parts of Kashmir Division, including Srinagar district, from August 31 to September 1, 2025, by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Srinagar Station.

Further, tourists and local Shikara Wallas have been advised to suspend their activities at Dal and Nigeen lakes.
“The Sand Miners, at River Jhelum, and other water bodies shall not attempt to cross before verifying the condition and situation of Jhelum and its tributaries.”
The general public has been advised to contact the District Emergency Operation Centre Srinagar, Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) Srinagar, and Police Control Room Srinagar for any information.
In a weather alert, the MeT Srinagar station informed that a system is approaching the region, bringing heavy, intense showers.
“Accompanied with gusty winds expected over many parts of Srinagar, Budgam and parts of Pampore, Awantipora & few parts of Pulwama & few other areas of South Kashmir.”
People have been advised to stay away from electric poles, cables, old trees, and loose structures. “Suspend shikara riding, boating in all water bodies including Dal lake.”
