Augmentation of water supply from Chenab reviewed

JAMMU, Apr 17: Divisional Commissioner Jammu Pardeep Gupta today convened officers meeting to review the preparedness of Summary Appraisal Report (SAR) under augmentation of water supply to Jammu from Chenab River costing Rs. 771 crore under JKUSDIP to be funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The meeting was informed that this sub-project aims at to provide water supply to the population within the limits of Jammu Development Authority by increasing potable water production in Phase-I by 240 MLD to meet the water demand up to year 2031 and in Phase-II by another 240 MLD to meet the water demand up to year 2046.
The population to be benefited has been worked out as 2464000 souls in the year 2031 and 3688000 souls in the year 2046. The Sub project scope of Phase-I consists of construction of intake structures at River Chenab laying of raw water rising main, construction of 240 MLD Water Treatment Plant (WTP) at village Gurah Pattan, laying of about 20 km, clear water gravity main up to CPS, Muthi, construction of pump house at CPS, Muthi, laying of 35 km pumping mains, and others.
Threadbare discussion was held on various vital issues so that the proposed projects would be started soon. It was informed by ERA authorities that the tendering process would possibly be aken up ending this year.
Divisional Commissioner asked the ERA and other concerned departments to work in close synergy so that these vital public works are not delayed due to lack of coordination at any level.
The meeting was attended by CEO ERA Saurabh Bhagat, Chief Engineer R&B Tehseen Mustafa, CE PDD Shenaz Goni, Director ERA Naresh Langeh, ADC Jammu Dr. R. S. Sharma, SE Hydralic Circle Sushil Aima, Joint Director Joginder Pal, XEn Irrigation K. C. Gupta, other senior officers of ERA and concerned departments.
