JAMMU, Apr 19: Apni Trade Union (ATU) president Ajaz Kazmi today expressed concern over sky-rocketing prices of constriction material viz. sand and concrete.
In a statement issued here, Kazmi said it is because of the mining mafia that the prices of construction materials have sky-rocketed. “The current mining policy has already put a halt on the mineral extraction due to which people across J&K are suffering immensely. However, such mafia is acting as a blight on the markets wherein the cost of such material has inflated tremendously,” he added.
Citing the action taken against illegal mining in Poonch by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Poonch, under whose supervision illegal mining mafia network was busted and 26 vehicles were recovered during police raids at various Nallahs and streams in district Poonch, Kazmi said other officers in Jammu and Kashmir should also follow him and take strict action against mining mafia.
“Such prompt actions on illegal activities prove beneficial to set an exemplary specimen before the people in the long run. This boosts the confidence of people in Rule of Law and also acts as deterrence for any further unlawful activities,” Kazmi concluded.
