ASKPC voices concern over deletion of voters

JAMMU, Mar 24: A meeting of ASKPC was held under the chairmanship of its president advocate Ravinder Raina, in which grave concern was shown regarding non inclusion of fresh eligible and deletion of registered voters in the local body electoral rolls by election authorities of the State.
The meeting said that it is the surprise of the organization that why even small, and fragile matters are taken so viciously. Meeting said that it is known to all and Sundry that local body elections is not any political election, but it is simply an arrangement to manage civic hygienic affairs of particular wards within the jurisdiction or municipality.
The meeting said any citizen of India, who is living in any ward for more than three years is by virtue of the law eligible for being a voter to participate in the Municipal elections. One fails to understand that what are the compulsions that authorities feel constrained to debar the internally displaced people I e Kashmiri Pandits who are already living in and across the different municipal wards of the Jammu for last over two decades.
The ASKPC in an appeal to Governor N N Vohra urged him to look into the matter on priority basis and direct the concerned authorities that either the electoral rolls prepared in 2012-13 be made mandatory or extension of dates for elections be announced so that hapless community may fill up the inclusion form seeking registration in the voter list so that they can exercise their vote in municipal elections.
The members also showed their dismay towards the attitude of the administration who are hell bent upon to create unnecessary harassment to the hapless community by snatching their fundamental right.
Dr T K Bhat, general secretary ASKPC, C L Bhat vice president, B K Mujoo, secretary, Veena Gurtoo, president Women Wing, B L Handoo and others attended the meeting.
