Srinagar, June 24: Police have suspended 5 cops including an officer who were accompanying the Pakistani militant to the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Sopore last week. The militant died in a grenade blast that went off inside the vehicle on their way back to Central Jail Srinagar.
These cops who are injured have been suspended for dereliction of duty that led to possession of grenades with Pakistani prisoner, Waheed Noor Khan, and blast in which the prisoner and a constable Abdul Majeed died.
Five other cops – Assistant Sub-Inspector Ghulam Ahmed Mir of Amargadh Sopore, Driver Mohammad Amin Dar of Iqbal Nagar Sopore, Constable Tasaduk Ali of Uri, Constable Iftikar Ahmed of Uri and Constable Anwar Ali of Hawal – who were injured in the blast have been now suspended as it is due to their dereliction of duty that led to the possession of grenades with Khan and the blast.
Reports said that Khan wore a jacket containing two grenades at CJM Sopore court when he went to offer prayers. The policemen didn’t take notice of Khan going inside the prayer room without a jacket and came out wearing a jacket.
As per police, he threatened the cops with the grenade on way to Srinagar near Hygam and asked them to stop the vehicle but the grenade went off when one of the cops tried to overpower Khan.
Police have detained 5 people in connection with the blast and are investigating the case. They have also identified the person who handed over jacket to Khan in the CJM’s court. Police have launched hunt to arrest him.
In the meantime, an Army jawan was killed in Rampur sector of Uri in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district along the Line of Control (LoC) early today.
Reports said that an Army jawan of 8-Sikh identified as Sukhdev was killed when an Army party had laid an ambush near the LoC beyond fence at Torna area in Rampur sector in Uri and was fired upon.
Soon after the firing more troops were rushed to the spot and searches conducted against the suspected militants who might have fired at the Army ambush.
However, no militants were found in the area and it is believed that the Army party was fired at from across the LoC either by the militants or Pakistani Rangers.
