ASCOMS Jammu hosts National Conference ‘GISICON 2025’

JAMMU, Nov 23: Microbiology and Medicine departments at Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS) & Hospital, Jammu, successfully hosted the 10th National Conference of the Gastrointestinal Infection Society of India (GISICON 2025) on 21st and 22nd November.
The theme of the conference was “Brain -Gut Axis – Two Lane Expressway.” The event highlighted the intricate link between changes in the gut microbiome and their effects on the brain and other systems.
Chief guest, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, inaugurated the conference. In his insightful inaugural address, he emphasized the role of metagenomics in studying gut -related changes affecting the brain and other systems and elaborated on various initiatives of the Government of India to encourage private institutions in meaningful research and innovation.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr Anil Gupta, organizing chairperson and HoD Medicine ASCOMS. Dr Bella Mahajan, HoD Microbiology, ASCOMS, presented the history and achievements of GISI. Director Principal Dr Pavan Malhotra highlighted the importance of such conferences in fostering academic collaboration across the country.
Swami Prem Vivekanand Ji, president of the Governing Body, blessed the gathering with his presence. Dr Gautam Mengi, joint secretary, stressed the importance of ethics in medical practice during his address. Eminent gastroenterologist Dr M S Khuroo, former Director & Dean SKIMS, graced the occasion as guest of honor and reaffirmed the relevance of the theme in tackling diseases arising from gut dysbiosis.
The conference witnessed the participation of over 300 delegates from across India, representing leading medical colleges, research institutions and hospitals. Both days featured guest speakers of national repute, who delivered keynote lectures and chaired sessions on cutting -edge topics in microbiology, medicine, gastroenterology, neurology and endocrinology.
The inaugural ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by organizing secretary Dr Dipender Kaur Najotra.
On Day 2, the conference featured scientific sessions by eminent speakers of various specialities. The proceedings concluded with a valedictory function conducted by organizing secretary Dr Puneeta Gupta, who summarized the key outcomes.
