ASC celebrates Corps Day

UDHAMPUR, Dec 8:  Army Service Corps (ASC) celebrated its 254th Corps Day at Northern Command headquarters here today.
The history of supply and transport services is as old as the history of organised warfare. Actually, it was in the year 1760 that the very rudimentary Supply and Transport organization of the three Presidencies of the East India Company were brought under the council of a single authority. However, on Dec 8, 1950, the word ‘Royal’ was dropped and ever since the Corps celebrates its raising on this day.
The Army Service Corps which is mainly responsible for the provisioning, procurement and distribution of supplies, petroleum products, hygiene chemicals and items of hospital comforts to the Army, Air Force and to the Navy and other paramilitary forces as and when required.
The spirit of ASC is reflected in their motto of “Seva Asmakam Dharam” or “ Service is our creed” and the corps has a record of outstanding contribution in all operations and has proved its mettle both in war and peace.
Lt Gen DS Hooda, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, (Army Commander) Northern Command  complimented all ranks of the Army  Service Corps for their dedication, high degree of professionalism and flexibility in  performing their duties in difficult and inhospitable terrain conditions in the Northern theatre.
The Army Commander called upon all ranks of ASC to work selflessly and rededicate themselves to uphold the ethos and spirit enshrined in the Corps’ motto.  He further extended his best wishes and warm greetings to all ranks and civilians of the Corps and their families.
