NEW DELHI, March 29: Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal today accused the BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) of having pushed drugs into households across Punjab during their rule.
He claimed that ministers from the previous governments allegedly provided shelter to drug smugglers and that peddlers operated under police protection.
Kejriwal, sharing a video clip of union Home Minister Amit Shah reportedly speaking about a ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab’, demanded that Shah should apologise to the people of Punjab for the alleged spread of drugs.
He claimed that under the current Bhagwant Mann-led government, ministers responsible for the previous period were being sent to jail and action was being taken against drug trafficking.
Targeting the BJP further, Kejriwal claimed that a Rs 20,000 crore drug haul at Mundra Port in Gujarat exposed governance failures and questioned why the port owner had allegedly not been held accountable. He also highlighted reports alleging that 2,300 kg of drugs were eaten by rats while in police custody in Gujarat, suggesting that the drugs were allegedly stolen and sold in the market.
Kejriwal concluded by asserting that while the Punjab government was allegedly cracking down on drug networks, the state’s past under BJP and Akali Dal rule would not be forgotten.
