JAMMU, Aug 30: BJP UT Secretary Arun Sharma today conducted an extensive tour of several flashflood-affected villages in the Purmandal block, accompanied by party workers and officials, to assess the damages caused by continuous heavy rains over the past 7-8 days. The torrential downpour has severely impacted low-lying areas, disrupting normal life and leaving many households inundated with floodwater and debris.
Sharma emphasized that no household should be left unattended and assured the affected citizens that their safety and well-being remain the top priority. He stated that all authorities are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with relevant departments to ensure an efficient response and prompt mitigation measures.
He also acknowledged the dire circumstances faced by the people, many of whom have lost their shelter, livelihood and possessions. “The BJP stands firmly with every affected family in this hour of crisis,” he said, calling for immediate relief distribution, medical assistance, and restoration of connectivity. He also stressed the need for long-term measures such as strengthening embankments, improving drainage systems and enhancing disaster preparedness to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
While addressing the media, Sharma criticized the Chief Minister for being absent and indifferent to the crisis, urging public representatives to remain vigilant until every resident is safe.
