RAMBAN, Mar 7: The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) of district Ramban has intensified its efforts to enforce traffic rules by conducting a comprehensive drive across all routes of the district. The campaign targeted habitual offenders violating road safety norms and traffic regulations.
In the past 15 days, the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) of Ramban, Kuldeep Singh issued show cause notices for the suspension of driving licenses to seven drivers found guilty of repeated violations. Additionally, six vehicle owners holding route permits for the Banihal-Chambalwas route received notices for offences such as overcharging, overloading, and refusal to adhere to the fare rates set by the Transport Department.
The crackdown led to the seizure of 20 vehicles and the issuance of challans to 120 vehicles for operating without valid permits, fitness certificates, or for using unfit vehicles.
During the drive, the ARTO, along with a team of Motor Vehicle Inspectors, conducted meetings with transport operators and drivers, focusing on road safety measures and compliance. The officials emphasized the importance of keeping vehicles fit, timely renewal of documents, and adhering to speed limits without resorting to overcharging or overloading.
The ARTO assured operators that their genuine concerns would be addressed promptly but warned that no leniency would be shown to those violating traffic rules, underscoring the Department’s commitment to passenger safety across the district.
