ARTO disqualifies 16 DLs

RAMBAN, Dec 31: The Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Ramban, has disqualified 16 driving licences (DLs) of motorists for serious violations of traffic laws.
The action was taken under the provisions of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and the amended Act of 2019.
As per an Order, the licences were recommended for disqualification by the enforcement agencies under Section 206(4) of the Motor Vehicles Act for committing grave offences posing a threat to public safety.
The Order stated that Section 19(1) (f) of Motor Vehicles Act empowers the licensing authority to disqualify or revoke a driving licence if the holder commits acts likely to cause danger or nuisance to the public.
Show-cause notices were issued to the concerned licence holders but most of them failed to respond within the stipulated period of 10 days, while the replies received from a few were found unsatisfactory.
In view of this, and in compliance with the directions of Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety, the ARTO Ramban ordered the disqualification of the concerned DLs.
The licences were disqualified for three months with immediate effect as per the order issued by the ARTO Ramban.
