Arora is new President of AWSC

JAMMU, Dec 1: Association for Welfare of Senior Citizens (AWSC) confirmed the adhoc appointment of Er. Ashok Kumar Arora as president of AWSC in place of Er. SK Gupta who had earlier resigned due to personal compulsions in their Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) held recently.
In the AGM presided over by Er H B Khajuria senior patron members deliberated on various issues concerning the running of day to day activities of the Association. The decision of Management Committee to appoint A K Arora as President and K K Mahajan as vice president were ratified with voice vote.
In his opening address Er. A K Arora gave a presentation about the working of the Association and exhorted members to strive and press the government to create facilities for the senior citizens.
He demanded establishing of Old Age Homes in all the districts of the  State, adopting of  National Policy on Older Persons (NPOP) of 1999 and maintenance of Parents Act 2007. Both the Acts have been adopted by all the states in the country.
Besides he demanded activation of the State Level Advisory Council for welfare of senior citizens and Immediate handing over of possession of land for construction of Old Age Home to AWSC.
The resolution was adopted and AWSC was asked to take up these issues with appropriate authorities.
