JAMMU, Jan 27: People of Arnia tehsil today staged a demonstration, alleging supply of adulterated flour (atta) under the Public Distribution System (PDS).
The agitating people claimed ever since two new mills—Om Flour Mill and Durga Flour Mill—have started providing the ration under the PDS, people have been getting black and unhygienic flour, which is unfit for consumption.

Mulkh Raj, a resident of Arnia said, “Our people were getting unadulterated ration from GK and Vaishno Flour Mills. But ever since new flour mills have started providing the ration under the PDS, people have been falling ill.”
Another villager claimed he recovered grinded wood from the ration received under the PDS.
The agitating villagers also called the Tehsil Supply Officer (TSO) to the spot to apprise him about the situation.
On their request, the TSO collected the samples of the flour and found them unfit for the consumption, while requesting the people to return their supply and directing the company to lift its samples immediately.
The TSO assured the Arnia residents that a thorough probe would be conducted into the matter.
Meanwhile, the locals appealed the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department and the concerned Minister Javed Ahmad Dar to look into the matter on an urgent basis to ensure that people get unadulterated ration supply henceforth.
