An Army vehicle, passing through Phal village in Sunderbani sector, was fired upon by suspected terrorists from the surrounding forests this afternoon. Troops immediately took positions and retaliated. Reinforcement of the Army followed by paramilitary forces and police also rushed to the spot and launched joint search and cordon operation in the area, once considered to be an infiltration route.
Firing on the Army vehicle came just hours after troops opened firing after observing suspicious movement near the Line of Control (LoC) in Keri Battal area of Akhnoor sector last night. A search operation was also on in Keri Bhattal where an Army Captain and a soldier were martyred early this month in an IED explosion.
However, there was no Army statement on Keri Bhattal (Akhnoor) or Phal (Sunderbani) firing incidents.
No injuries were reported on Army side in both the incidents.
Meanwhile, alert troops of the Border Security Force (BSF) early this morning foiled an infiltration bid along the International Border (IB) in Pathankot sector.
The Jammu-based BSF spokesperson here said that at pre-dawn, troops observed a suspicious movement across the international border in the Border Outpost of Tashpatan, Pathankot border area, and an intruder was observed crossing the border.
“He was challenged by the alert troops but paid no heed and kept on moving. BSF troops sensing a threat neutralized the intruder,” he said, adding that the identity and motive of the intruder are being ascertained.
“Vigilant BSF troops thwarted an infiltration attempt. Strong protest will be lodged with Pakistani Rangers,” said the spokesman.
