RAJOURI, May 3: An Army soldier committed suicide by using his service rifle in the forward area of Rajouri sector last night.
Official sources said that on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, an Army soldier committed suicide by shooting himself with his own service rifle in Keri area along the LoC.
Identified as Rahul Kumar, son of Jasbir Kumar, of 9 Jat Regiment, the jawan was undergoing training at Sarul Training Camp in Keri. He shot himself with his service gun last night and died on the spot.
After hearing the sound of gunshot, there was complete chaos in the camp and at first the soldiers thought that perhaps terrorists had attacked the camp, but when they went in the direction of the sound of the gunshot, they saw a soldier soaked in blood. The dead body of Rahul Kumar was lying there. The army immediately shifted him to the army medical camp where the doctor declared him as brought dead.
On Friday, the body was brought to GMC Rajouri where the doctor handed over the body to the Army after conducting its post-mortem and completing the medico-legal formalities. The police has taken cognizance of the matter.
