Army organizes technology awareness tour for engineering girl students

SRINAGAR, Aug 5: Army today flagged off a technology awareness tour for the girls of SSM College of Engineering and Technology from Badami Bagh Cantonment.
The tour was flagged off by Army’s Srinagar-based 15 Chinar Corps Commander, Lt General Subrata Saha in presence of a host of civilian and army dignitaries, teaching faculty of SSM College and parents of participating children.
“The technology awareness tour is a unique experience towards providing exposure to these girls about latest technological developments and management techniques being followed in other parts of the country. This tour gives them a chance to know what higher education and employment opportunities are there waiting for them. During the course of 12 days tour, the students would also be interacting with the Chief of Army Staff, Northern Army Commander and various senior dignitaries. The tour children would get an opportunity to meet President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan and witness the PM’s Speech on Independence Day at Red Fort. They would also visit various Centres of Excellence in the country like IIT Delhi, IIT Indore and IIIM Indore and visit National Science Museum,” a defence spokesman said, adding: “Apart from these, the students would also visit the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering and Infantry School at Mhow near Indore in MP and other premiere training institutes of the Army. Witnessing the Historic Flag Hoisting Ceremony and PM’s address at Red Fort on the occasion of 69th Independence Day shall be a unique opportunity for these 20 young minds.”
A total of 20 engineering girl students are going on the 12-day tour.
The GOC in his interaction with the media reinforced the need to enhance the awareness of students especially the girls towards empowering them in being major stakeholders in nation building. “Such tours are integral to the initiative of engagement, education, empowerment and employment for the youth of Kashmir. He also mentioned that this is a beginning of a bright future for the girl students who were part of the tour” the defence spokesman added.
