UDHAMPUR, Apr 8: Army Ordnance Corps celebrated its 242nd Corps Day across Northern Command today.
The Ordnance Corps was raised on April 8, 1775 to organise effective control over military expenditure with a systematic distribution of Ordnance equipment and military stores to the troops of the East India Company. Over the last two and a quarter centuries, the magnitude of responsibility of the Corps has under gone a total metamorphosis and today it is a dynamic institution providing vital logistic backup to the Indian Army meeting all its requirement of ammunition, missiles, vehicles, clothing and equipment, besides spares support.
The Corps has constantly endeavoured to keep pace with modern inventory management techniques and automation for effectively managing the huge inventory of stores. In its glorious history of 242 years, the Ordnance Corps has not only effectively managed a large, complex inventory for providing material support to the Field Army across a wide spectrum of conflict situations but has also produced valiant soldiers who have defended the Nation and earned glory in war.
The occasion was marked by the wreath laying ceremony at `Dhruva War Memorial’, Udhampur by the senior most AOC, officer in Northern Command.
In their message to Army Ordnance Corps on the eve of the Corps Day, Chief of Army Staff, Army Commander, Northern Command, Master General of Ordnance and Director General of Ordnance services & Senior Colonel Commandant have extended their greetings to all ranks, civilians and families of the Corps.
