JAMMU, Dec 30: Pakistan Army today violated ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC) in Pallanwalla sector in Akhnoor and under the cover of firing also tried to push a group of militants into the Indian territory. An Army jawan was injured in the firing but troops thwarted the militant attempt to infiltrate.
In another incident, a porter with the Army was injured in mine blast at forward village of Tarkundi in Balakote sector of Poonch district this afternoon.
Official sources said troops observed movement of a group of four to five militants trying to infiltrate into the Indian territory from forward area of Navela Panjtoot in Pallanwalla sector of Akhnoor this afternoon taking cover of fog in the area, which had reduced visibility. Pakistan Army also opened firing on the Indian positions in violation of ceasefire agreement and tried to give cover to the infiltrators.
However, Indian Army retaliated. After exchanges, the troops foiled infiltration attempt on the LoC and the militants escaped back to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).
An Army jawan Inderjeet Sharma of 11 JAK Li was injured in the firing. Troops evacuated the injured soldier from the site of firing and shifted him to hospital. His condition was stated to be stable.
Sources confirmed that a group of four to five militants had tried to infiltrate from the LoC in Pallanwalla sector in Akhnoor tehsil of Jammu district but alert troops retaliated immediately after observing movement of the infiltrators and forced them to return.
Earlier also, the militants had made infiltration attempts from the LoC in Pallanwalla sector of Akhnoor but hadn’t succeeded in the wake of alertness displayed by the troops.
Army already had reports that the militants were getting desperate to infiltrate into this side from the LoC. In the wake of these reports, troops were maintaining high alert on the LoC.
Meanwhile, a civilian porter working with 6 Rajput Rifles was injured when he stepped over a mine at forward area on the LoC at Tarkundi in Balakote sector of Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district this morning. He has been identified as Mohammad Zamaan Khursheed son of Mohammad Khan, a resident of Rajdhani, Manjakote in Rajouri district.
The injured had been engaged as porter by the Army.
Sources said the mine exploded when the porter accidentally stepped over it. Troops evacuated the injured to local hospital from where he was referred to Military Hospital, Rajouri. He was responding to the treatment.
Other Army jawans had narrow escape in the mine blast, sources said and ruled out any sabotage by the militants behind the blast saying the explosion was caused by the mine, which had been planted in the forward areas along the LoC to check infiltration attempts by the militants.
