SAMBA, Sept 30: An Army jawan was killed when his service rifle went off accidentally in Maheshwar area of Samba district today.
Sepoy Ram Kumar Tiwari was cleaning his rifle at the Army camp when it went off accidentally at around 0940 hours and hit his head, a Defence spokesman said.
He was immediately rushed to Military Hospital Samba where doctors declared him as brought dead.
Tiwari hailed from Raipur belt in Chhattisgarh, he said adding a court of inquiry had been ordered into the incident.
Meanwhile, the Samba Police has registered a case under Section 174. The body was handed over to Army after postmortem and completion of other formalities by police.
