SRINAGAR, Jan 30: The Indian Army fired warning shots last night after several Pakistani drones were reportedly spotted flying close to the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district, official sources said today.

They said the drones were spotted in the Keran sector flying very close to the LoC, following which Indian Army fired some warning shots.
“Following the warning shots, the drones went back,” said a source. The Keran sector is strategically sensitive due to its proximity to traditional infiltration routes used by terrorists over the years.
Defence sources have not officially said anything on the incident.
Over the past few years drone sightings along the LoC and the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir have largely been concentrated in the Jammu sector. The drones have been intercepted in districts such as Samba, Kathua and Jammu.
The spotting of Pakistani drones in Keran presents a new security challenge. Security agencies believe drones in this region could be used not only for surveillance but also to aid infiltration attempts or drop weapons, communication devices and narcotics.
The LoC in Kashmir has been by and large calm since Operation Sindoor last year. There has been no major ceasefire violation along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir after the Operation Sindoor. Earlier, this year Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi said 139 ceasefire violations were recorded in 2025, of which 124 occurred during Operation Sindoor.
