LEH, Nov 28: The Indian Army today inaugurated Project Sena Sarthi in Leh, marking a major boost to operational logistics in the high-altitude areas of Ladakh.
The project, launched by Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, is the first initiative of its kind aimed at strengthening strategic fuel storage in the Kargil sector.
Developed in collaboration with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Project Sena Sarthi includes advanced underground facilities for storing fuel, oil, and lubricants.
These storage units are designed to withstand the extreme weather and terrain conditions of the region.
The e-inauguration was jointly carried out by Lt Gen Sharma and BPCL Director Marketing Subhankar Sen, in the presence of senior Army officers.
Lt Gen Sharma said the project reflects the Army’s focus on improving logistical self-sufficiency in high-altitude operational areas.
He noted that the upgraded underground storage system will double fuel capacity in a single season-an achievement not seen in the past 25 years-which will ensure uninterrupted support to troops deployed in harsh terrain.
The Army said the project marks a significant infrastructure milestone and further strengthens its partnership with BPCL.
