JAMMU, Mar 9: The district administration today conducted a major anti-encroachment drive in the Lower Chowadhi area of Sainik Colony in Jammu and demolished several illegal boundary walls raised on the Government land.
The operation was carried out jointly by officials of the Revenue Department and local police to remove structures constructed in violation of land laws in the Greater Kailash–Chowadhi belt.
Official sources said the action was taken on Khasra numbers 345, 197, 195 and 196 where encroachments had been reported.
During the drive, the authorities retrieved around 30 to 35 kanals of Government land which had allegedly been encroached upon by a businessman, Rakesh Choudhary.
The anti-encroachment operation was led by the SDM South along with a team from the Revenue Department, Bahu, while police personnel headed by the SDPO East and SHO Channi were deployed at the site to ensure smooth conduct of the drive.
Officials said the teams reached the spot early in the day and used machinery to demolish the illegal boundary walls constructed on the encroached land.
No law and order issues had been reported during the operation, they said.
Meanwhile, the district administration reiterated that it will continue its campaign against illegal encroachments and warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found occupying Government land unlawfully.
Officials said such drives are being carried out to safeguard public land and ensure its proper use.
