Anti-militancy operations to normalize situation in Kashmir: IGP

Srinagar, Sept 6: The Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, SJM Gillani today said that security forces have resumed the anti-militancy operations in Kashmir and it will help in normalization of situation in Valley.
While addressing a press conference in South Kashmir’s Anantnag town, Gillani said that resuming of the anti militancy operations will help in controlling the unrest as militants are fuelling it.
“Because of the situation prevailing since last two months, there has been decline in our anti-militancy operations but now we have again resumed cordon-and-search and anti-militancy operations. With this, the impact of militants and their hand in the ongoing unrest would be overcome”, said the IGP.
Gillani said that during the unrest more militants have entered South Kashmir which is epicenter of two month long violence and hoped that security forces will tackle them. “There are reports that some more militants have entered South Kashmir but we will take care of them”, he added.
The IGP said that PAVA shells have arrived in Kashmir as alternative to pellets and security forces have started using them for crowd control. “We try to use pellets in very rare circumstances but where there is necessity we are using there. We have received some shells and we are also using them”, he said.
Gillani said that security forces will try to use minimum force and take steps for restoration of normalcy. “We will try to use minimum force when there is such (like that of Seer Hamdan) demonstration and forces exercise full restraint. We will take all steps for the restoration of normal life”, he said.
The IGP said that action will be taken against security forces who are found involved in ransacking of houses and property. “As of now, we are trying to control the situation. But we will analyze all the incidents where such things (of ransacking) and if (anyone CRPF man is found guilty) the action will be taken”, he said.
Gillani said curfew has been lifted and people should resume normal life. “The children are unable to attend their schools, people are unable to live their lives in better way. We appeal people to live their life normally as we have lifted the curfew”, he said.
About security plan for Eid that is falling on Tuesday, the IGP said: “We will decide according to the situation that will develop in coming days.”
