JAMMU, June 3: With the arrest of an individual and recovery of 3.962 kilograms of charas from his possession, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed to have foiled an inter-state drug smuggling attempt. A motorcycle used in the crime was also seized.
An ANTF official said that acting on specific intelligence, a team of ANTF led by DySP Tanweer Ahmad Jeelani and supervised by SSP ANTF Jammu, Mohammad Anwar-Ul-Haq, intercepted a smuggler who was trying to transport the contraband from the Kashmir Valley using a motorcycle.
According to him, the charas was hidden in concealed compartments of the two-wheeler to avoid detection.
“However, the coordinated response of the field teams resulted in the arrest of the drug smuggler and seizure of the consignment from his possession before it could be trafficked further,” the ANTF official said, adding that a bike used in the crime has also been confiscated.
He identified the arrested individual as Mohammad Nasir, 52, of Uttarakhand.
Quoting the initial investigation, he said the accused appeared to have been linked to a wider inter-state network involved in cannabis smuggling.
It is important to mention here that this was the second commercial quantity of the narcotics seized by the ANTF in the last 10 days.
Earlier on May 25, two individuals were arrested by the agency with 1.2 kilograms of charas near Purmandal Morh area.
